I am freelance writer, based in Hong Kong since early 2014 (and before that, Singapore for 7 years.) I specialise in lifestyle topics – particularly travel and food/drink. Recent magazine commissions include Food & Travel, Holidays for Couples, Executive PA, Paradise, Holidays with Kids and Storm.
I have contributed to many travel and lifestyle websites, and for several years I was the ‘Local Expert’ for Singapore for USA Today 10Best.com, which included managing and editing their Singapore pages, providing insider advice on where to eat, where to stay, what to see and how to enjoy yourself in my home city. Now I write and edit the family travel blog Mum on the Move, full of family-friendly tips and knowledge, covering Hong Kong, Asia and the rest of the World.
I have two published books. In Singapore: 60 fabulous adventures in the city (2009, Marshall Cavendish) is a travel guidebook, summing up the ‘best of the best’ of things to do in Singapore. Your Scottish Wedding – a modern bride’s guide to planning her big day was published in 2006.
I have a particular passion for travel, having lived in Vanuatu (where I was born), Papua New Guinea (where I grew up), England (where I went to school), Scotland (where I went to university), Costa Rica and Spain (where I studied Spanish) and Portugal (where I studied Portuguese).
Pre-children you would have found me trekking up mountains on the Everest Trail in Nepal or the Inca Trail in Peru; exploring the rainforests of Borneo or Langkawi; whitewater rafting in Chiang Mai or Costa Rica; riding through the paddy fields on the back of a motorbike in Vietnam, or downing sake and belting out a tune at karaoke in Kyoto. These days things are a little calmer – but as a family we have still managed to visit Phuket, Langkawi, Western Australia, Northern Queensland, Bali, The Maldives, Hoi An (Vietnam), Shanghai, Paris, Zurich, Guilin (China), London and Edinburgh. And I look forward to many more fun family holidays ahead.
